Early bird gets the burritto

Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch (and dinner)?

Colin and I went to the PSU Party in the Park today... which is very similar to the UCSC SOAR fair except that it was better attended and instead of charging people 8 bucks for crappy dining hall food they gave free pizza , lebanese food, or Chipotle burrittos to anyone who came and participated -including all the homeless people who hang out in the park. Speaking of Chipotle... since Colin and I had the lebanese and pizza for lunch, I was left wanting a burritto for dinner.
We went to the new one by Chrisitne's parents house, and it turned out they don't open tomorrow. They were however doing a training run and giving away free food. That's right... whole. meal. free.

Anyway... I know this isn't a really interesting post, but I just had to brag.

how're things?

Well... they are pretty good... and very busy. Just as a general update here is a run down of what's going on with us right now.

Christine is working her butt off at her job.

I started my graduate program in counseling and I am working as a graduate asst. in the career center at Portland state.

Colin is in day care at PSU where they have a wide assortment of truck and trains to play with and other kids to run around with and scream like maniacs. He goes down for a nap without a fight because he has completely worn himself out by then. Christine made him a blanket with Thomas on it and apparently bestowed it with magical napping abilities since for the last 2.25 years he has rarely napped without protest.

Indescribable cuteness

But I’ll try anyway…

This morning Colin was in the process of waking up, but still pretty much asleep. He was lying on his back and he pulled him legs up as tight as he could and said “ready …2…3 jump!” (it was in Colin speak, but that is an accurate translation) and kicked his legs as hard as he could. He did this three or fours times before he actually woke himself up. He woke up smiling and happy and gave us both hugs.
This pic is from this afternoon. Colin is finally almost tall enough for his trike, but he still can’t quite work the pedals. He likes to sit on it and have us push him around though. Before he starts demanding that we help him onto the bike he lines up his trains on the back. They all face forward and are pretty much evenly spaced. We push him along until he hears one of the trains fall, at which point he looks back puts his feet down and won’t resume riding until the train has been replaced. When he is done he gathers them all up and brings them back inside with him. He is one very cute, and very happy kid.

My weekend just got more interesting...

my subconscious hates me

I don’t often wake up and feel very rested. Most nights I have marathon length, crazy, barely coherent dreams. Often they are like watching a very boring, very detailed movie. That’s right I bore myself in my sleep. I usually only remember bits and pieces, but enough that I can tell it doesn’t make any sense. I’ll describe some of the reoccurring features of my dreams another time, for now here is last nights dream which was unusually linear and coherent, but still quite strange.
In my dream I was following around Alton Brown while he was filming segments for episodes of Good Eats, we were in a supermarket (The VONS store on Tamarack in Carlsbad – before it was remodeled… details) He was talking about food science nad recipes like always, but everything he was talking about making was something he had already made on the show. No one was saying anything about how he had already done it all before until he was talking about pistachios and I made a reference to something he said about them in one of the shows. He got really upset and started yelling about how if people wanted to see something original he had something they hadn’t seen before.
He said he was going to make a “blessed cobbler” and started rambling about Native Americans using tobacco in cooking. Then we were filming at the beach and he was talking about how for this recipe you needed two tobacco leaves and how they needed to be cleaned, and that the best way to clean them was to dip them in the ocean, but that it was okay to use regular water if you had to.
Back in the supermarket, they set up an isle so he could walk down it and gather up all the ingredients for the cobbler. The isle had big smeared purple handprints, and demonic lighting He started by tearing up the tobacco and putting it in a bowl. He walked don the isle grabbing some stuff you would expect for cobbler, like sugar lemon juice… then he grabbed a can of garbanzo beans and 10 cinnamon sticks. He walked up to a big bowl of soggy berries and started rambling about punctured cell walls and since all they would give him was frozen berries he needed a gentle cushy container to cook them in. He them hollowed out a giant pumpkin with his hand and poured the tobacco/berry mix in. He then topped it with the granola he made in the oatmeal episode and cut a bunch of slits in the pumpkin.
There was a lot more to the dream, but I think you get the idea

Not once has it been in anyway not totally obvious. My dad and my aunt have sent Colin a few packages ,so now every time there is something on the porch he gets really excited and starts yelling Thomas! and dancing. He was really disappointed to find it was only a hard surface vacuum cleaner. Let's just hope that if there are any criminals prowling our neighborhood they are the dumbest around.
