The big move
As we promised to a number of people, here is quick summary of the move, complete with a few pictures. i mostly took blurry pictures of basically nothing the whole way. The part I don't like to talk about is that we actually have more stuff than will fit into a 15ft moving truck. Some stuff was abandoned in SC, and some is living temporarily in Christine's parent's garage. We thought we were going to get it all in, but e eventually gave up about 1 in the morning and drove to Pacifica. We left our old house a mess, and I still feel bad about it, but we just ran out of time and energy. They say moving is one of the most stressful of life events, and i am not inclined to argue with that. So after driving to Pacifica with a box spring strapped to the hyundai, we slept a while and set about reorganizing the truck. Things fit better in the light of day, and we got on the road about a quarter to 2.
Colin passed out by the time we got to the freeway, and we were off on our adventure. Christine's parents cam with us on the trip, and her dad drove the truck the entire way.
He didn't actually get pulled over, but if you ask Christine's mom, he was driving a little fast. The truck was in better conditions that moving vans we have seen in the past (stupid u-haul) and it is a good thing considering how far the drive was. The truck did have a tendency to rock back and forth when on rough road, which was more that a little disconcerting at times, but ultimately the drive was incident free.
Colin decided we should stop for the night. so we stopped at
in lovely
California.
We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and called it a night. The waitress said that Mt. Shasta was right out back, and in the morning we found out she meant it.
.
Back on the road for day 2, Colin decided to once again fall asleep before we hit the freeway. .
The weather was perfect for most of the trip.
. I tried to get pictures of interesting sites in Oregon, but we were moving too fast for the few sites worth recording. I tried to get a good picture of the entering Oregon sign, an the entering Washington sign.
I missed Oregon, and Washington could really use a bigger sign. When we got to Washington it was getting pretty overcast., and it rained for a good part of trip from Portland to Olympia. It was drizzling a little when we were unloading the truck, but all in all the weather was much better than expected. We were able to unload the truck a lot faster than we expected too. Christine's mom watched Colin, while her dad, the to of us, and her cousin Julie, and her husband Ryan moved boxes. We also had a ton of help from a man named Paul. We though he was a student, but it turned out he was just visiting his girlfriend, and he felt like helping. I kept telling him he had helped enough, and thanking him, but he stayed to the end.
We got it all unloaded, grabbed some dinner, and crashed out on a mattress on the floor.
That is enough story for today, we'll talk more about the apartment, and or adventures in lacey, Olympia, and St. Martin's College.
